Sanctus Real - Fireflight Concert - August 26, 2010 - Lutcher Theater, Orange, Texas

My wife and I went to a concert in Orange, Texas last night with some friends. The concert featured Christian bands Sanctus Real and Fireflight. There were also performances by a Texas band called The Access and a growing young group called Run Kid Run.

First off, these guys were all great!

The Access played a few songs first to lead off the night. They are a group from Mont Belview, Texas. They had a great sound and message. Since they were on the ticket with some big headliners, they weren't able play more than few songs, but we enjoyed them. Their myspace page is here: The Access

Next up was Run Kid Run. These guys were great! They were also only scheduled to play a handful of songs, but a couple of songs they sang last night, The Sweet Escape and Rescue Me, I have heard on KLOVE radio or AIR1 radio. I wish I could have heard more from them. Their website is: RunKidRun

Next up was Fireflight. Led by Dawn Michele, this group rocks big time. For those who like Christian music, but don't like hard rock, they might not be for you. But they are passionate Christians with awesome talent. Fireflight has risen to the top of the charts on many songs and they are simply awesome! Last night they played some great songs like Unbreakable, Desperate and Stand Up. Dawn Michele talked a bit about how they have put their trust in the Lord during some of the rocky times faced by her band. She also talked about being from a broken home. But she and others have persevered through their faith in God. Fireflight's website is here: Fireflight

The headliner and last group of the night was Sanctus Real. These guys are led by vocalist and guitarist Matt Hammitt. They have been together since 1996, and have had many #1 hits and awards in the last few years.

Chris, from Casting Crowns, did an awesome review of Sanctus Real and their new album here: http://www.castingcrowns.com/?q=blogs/chris/cd-review-6-record-real-heart

Sanctus Real was simply phenomenal last night! Casting Crowns has been #1 on my list, but I would love to see Casting Crowns tour with Sanctus Real. These guys, like Casting Crowns, are Christians and regular guys who have the same ups and downs that we do. Their message is so powerful, and their music is so awesome. Some of the songs they performed last night included my favorite, Lead Me. They also sang Redeemer, These Things Take Time from their new album, as well as some great ones from previous albums.

Matt Hammitt told about how his son to be (in 2 weeks) has a serious heart condition. The doctors found this in an ultrasound scan. Matt and his wife have prayed for the health of their son. As Matt said, God is capable of healing his son's heart, but he also knows that in prayer he asks God's will to be done. As Christians, we know that there are many miracles that are performed daily, but there are also things that happen according to God's will that might not be exactly how we want it. But one day, when we sit next to the throne of God, there will be no sadness, disappointment, or death. Matt has a strong conviction of this and trusts in what the Lord will do.

At one point in the concert, Matt asked a girl in the audience near the stage if she was video recording the band. She said yes, so he grabbed the camera and took it on stage where he filmed himself and the rest of the band while they performed one of the songs. That's hard to beat.

Before singing Lead Me, Matt also explained about how he and his wife had a talk awhile back about him being a better Christian leader and father in their home. He took this to heart and wrote Lead Me as a tribute for this commitment he has made. This song has a powerful message about a Husband and his wife, a Father and his kids, and most importantly a prayer to God asking him to Lead us as Christians.
